B.A. Early Education

The Early Education course has two objectives:

  1. To qualify and professionalise skilled personnel for the various sectors of early education work practice.
  2. To promote up-and-coming academics and research within the field of early education.

The course is designed so that students can develop their own individual pedagogical profile and a professional approach. Accordingly the course offers opportunity for theory-based critical reflection and for the acquisition of professional skills of intervention.

In line with the aims of the BA course, teaching is organised to convey the following skills.

  • The acquisition of a reflective professionalism
  • The ability to complete academic tasks independently
  • A critical disposition.
  • Intervention skills in professional work practice
  • A foundation in early education and related disciplines
  • An in-depth theoretical and practice-based knowledge of children and childhood (including the family and social contexts), of diversity and inclusion, of the learning processes of the child and aesthetic education, and of classical and international approaches to early education.
  • An in-depth theoretical and practice-based knowledge of networks and cooperation with other institutions
  • An in-depth theoretical and practice-based knowledge of historical and current discourse about professionalisation and professionalism, teamwork, leadership and institutional management.
  • Knowledge of the paradigms and methods used in empirical social research and the ability to carry out empirical research.

Official Duration of Programme (Standard Period of Study)

3 years / 180 CP (ECTS) (full time)

Approximately 40 students will be admitted per year.

Students who are state-approved nursery school teachers and who have successfully passed a classification examination go straight into the 3rd semester and then study part-time (66%) for six semesters.
